REVIEW CHECKLIST
Moving Quote Review Checklist: What to Check Before You Pay
Use this moving quote review checklist to check pricing, inventory, fees, deposits, company information, valuation, and timing before signing.
1. Company identity
- Legal business name and working contact information
- USDOT number for an interstate mover or broker
- Clear statement of whether the company is a carrier or broker
- Registration independently checked—not assumed from a logo or number on paper
2. Estimate and pricing
- Estimate type is stated clearly
- Main estimated total is easy to identify
- Inventory, weight, volume, hours, or other pricing basis is included
- Every condition that may change the price is explained
3. Services and extra-charge triggers
Confirm packing, unpacking, stairs, elevator, long carry, shuttle, storage, bulky items, parking, waiting time, fuel, tolls, and materials. If a service is promised but not listed, ask for it in writing.
4. Deposit, payment, and cancellation
- Deposit amount and recipient
- Accepted payment methods and payment schedule
- Refund and cancellation deadlines
- Rescheduling policy
- No blank or incomplete documents
5. Pickup, delivery, and protection
Check the pickup and delivery windows, who will contact you, how delays are handled, and what valuation or liability option applies. Keep copies of the estimate and any updated version.
6. Final comparison questions
- Are all quotes pricing the same inventory and services?
- Which quote explains possible increases most clearly?
- Which company’s identity and role can you verify?
- What is missing from each quote?
- What must be answered before a deposit is paid?
